A Memorable Team Getaway at Sima Kade: Embracing Nature and Connection

As outdoor enthusiasts, our annual getaways are a much-anticipated event, where we always aim to immerse ourselves in nature, hit the trails, and enjoy some quality time outdoors. This year’s retreat took us to the beautiful Sima Kade, a tranquil bush lodge located on the outskirts of Johannesburg. It was the perfect place to reflect on the past year and prepare ourselves for an exciting 2025.

Our adventure began near Brits in Scheerpoort, where we kicked things off with a refreshing team hike. The 5-kilometer trail was relatively flat, though the heat was intense—summer in South Africa always brings that challenge. A little Jack Russell, Buddy, was our cheerful companion, keeping up with us every step of the way, his excitement mirroring our own.

When we arrived at Sima Kade, we were greeted by a unique lodge experience. Nestled amongst the trees, the lodges felt like enchanting treehouses, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The lookout tower provided breathtaking panoramas, while the two fire pits were the perfect setting for evening gatherings.

On our first day, we set out for a hike to the rock pool—a much-needed destination on a sweltering 33-degree day. Though the trail was short, it was technically challenging, keeping us engaged as we navigated our way through the rocky terrain. Upon reaching the pool, we dove into the cool water, a refreshing reward after the demanding hike.

That evening, we enjoyed a braai, gathering around the fire to share stories, laugh, and reflect on the year gone by. It was a time for bonding, both through team-building exercises and playing board games, strengthening the camaraderie among us. The discussions around the fire that night weren’t just about fun; they were pivotal, helping us align our goals for the year ahead.

Our time at Sima Kade was more than just a weekend in nature—it was an opportunity to recharge, reconnect, and leave feeling more united as a team. As we step into 2025, we do so with a renewed sense of purpose, ready to take on new challenges together, inspired by the experiences and memories we’ve created.
